Your Website Stinks!
ByHi Guys,
Ok another little prospecting tip for you, TREAD CAREFULLY IS THE KEY!
Mr Business Owner, Your Website Is Horrible…….
What do I mean by that?
Well, we have all seen them, horrible business websites, built on free web programs, some not even containing a real business domain name.
You know the type:
www.freewebbuilder.com/smallbusinesswebsite/username101
How unprofessional indeed! But this is quite common and a sure sign that our services are needed everywhere. Many business owners try the DIY option of web presence and in these current economic times, the money saving free web substitute is not only the wrong thing to do but can be harmful to the business.
As IMarketers we know this, I mean,
Imagine a potential client trying to remember that mouthful of a domain!
Imagine their business name being typed into Google and not actually bringing up there business website! (Missed Opportunities)
Huge points that many business owners overlook!
Now, it is easy for us as IMarketers to believe we can help them out and then go out there and be too critical too early and say “Your Website Is Horrible……” We all know, how hard it can be not to say this or something similar.
But remember, this business owner could have spent hours upon hours creating this site, something they are proud of. They could have also had there young nephew or niece build the site for them and are indeed very proud of the outcome. To turn around and say:
“Your Website Stinks!”
Is bound to rub anyone up the wrong way. It becomes an insult.
So we need to tread very carefully. Praise at all opportunity and before bringing in a criticism or any critical analysis always start the sentence with a positive!
For example:
“I think the content on your current site is superb, well written and put together but……..”
“I commend you for taking ultimate action and putting a website together, this is no easy job, but the reason I am calling is because………”
“The fact you have a presence is already the biggest step, all you need to do now is build on it, and the reason I was calling was because….”
All these sentences starting with a positive and leading to why I called and ultimately the critical analysis!
This is vital when prospecting! Remember that many of these business owners have spent many hours putting together campaigns and need help, not a put down!
So always remember that when you are prospecting, commend or praise the business owner on his or her steps so far, this way any critical analysis is happily recieved!
